Tasting Notes

2001 Cabernet Sauvignon

MANDORF Arthurs Creek Estate vineyard sits in the well-known Yarra Valley wine region of North East Victoria. It was established in 1975 by the eminent Australian, the late SEK Hulme AM QC. Mr Hulme decided all his wines would have extended bottle ageing prior to being released for consumption. The 2001 vintage at Arthurs Creek was characterised by a prolonged dry spell from mid-January through to mid-March with some very warm weather during that period. The resulting harvest yielded a below average quantity of exceptionally ripe, concentrated fruit. This wine displays an impressively bright colour of medium intensity, with some slight lightening at the meniscus consistent with its age. The bouquet is complex and redolent of ripe small red and black fruit with a hint of cedar and new leather. The palate continues the pleasure of the bouquet, with a vibrant plush fruit melange on entry leading to a rounded middle palate with a long fragrant aftertaste of red berries, supported by ripe Cabernet tannins. This 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon is an excellent wine to match with grill beef, roast duck and pork. It has lain undisturbed in the cellars since bottling in 2004, to be enjoyed now or kept up to 30 years in your cellar.
